Most workplace learning fails the same way: people understand it, then carry on doing exactly what they were doing before.
I design learning that changes behaviour.
I've worked for clients in every sector and industry across three continents, supporting a million+ learning sessions along the way.
My process starts with a question: "what needs to change for a person to act differently?"
The answer isn't "more information". People change how they act when they've inhabited a situation, weighed a decision, and seen consequence play out.
Writing is my design process: narrative, clarity, and emotion turn learning objectives into experiences people remember and act on.
That's storytelling in practice.
My recent AI capability work has included design and delivery of onboarding pathways for novel job roles at companies serving the AI hyperscalers, like model training, ethics & safety, and RLHF.
I’ve a clear view of AI's limitations, and of the capabilities we need to be developing now.
Alongside learning design, I teach screenwriting and provide script consultancy (which makes me look back on my early learning scenarios and cringe).
My current focus is using those insights to upskill learning design teams. My practice centres around language. Language is how we organise what we think. It’s what we use to communicate those ideas: to influence, to argue, and to teach. It is innately human. And it is the most-used and most overlooked learning design skill.
I work with organisations that need to change what people do, and learning designers who want to develop the craft and judgement to make that happen.
